Estat de la feina per la versió 29

El 28-04-2014 s'incorpora la nostra feina a la versió 29 de mozilla, que surt el dia 29 (calendari <https://wiki.mozilla.org/RapidRelease/Calendar>). Hi ha hagut molta feina perquè s'ha fet el canvi a la interfície gràfica més gran des del Firefox 4: l'Australis. Programes (tauler <https://l10n.mozilla.org/shipping/dashboard?locale=ca>): - (tot) Aurora 30<http://hg.mozilla.org/releases/l10n/mozilla-aurora/ca/rev/7378570c50cb>: completat. (gràcies Jordi!) - (tot) Beta 29: hem detectat que hi falten 2 cadenes en fx i tb però sembla que no ens bloqueja. igualment intentaré actualitzar-lo. - SeaMonkey 2.26: ens el van rebutjar i ens han fet fallback a 2.25. La propera, 2.27, hauria de sortir bé. Web - L'australis ha portat feina extra (~100-150 cadenes). The two pages share the strings (firefox/australis/firefox_tour.lang), there is a total of 66 strings. Several things to know about this page: * This is a special page in that it is whitelisted in Firefox itself to be allowed to have access to the chrome (the UI of Firefox) which means that it proposes to take a tour of the new Australis UI and activates menus to show you what is new or where things used to be and now are. * This page gives tips during the tour and when you finish the tour, incitates you to use Firefox Sync * The demo server is not whitelisted, only the final https://www.mozilla.orgserver is, which means that you need to test your translation in a Firefox with Australis (beta, aurora, nightly), you need to add a custom preference to `about:config` in Firefox in order to enable UITour on demo3. type: string name: browser.uitour.whitelist.add.testing value: www-demo3.allizom.org Before translating, I really encourage you to visit the firstrun/whatsnew pages to familiarize yourself with the UI :) 4/ The glow website In the past, we had created a campaign to count all the Firefox downloads with a global map showing lights where people were downloading Firefox. This year, we are going to do something similar for Australis except that we will not count dialogs but opinions on what matters most for you as a firefox user with a set of options (Privacy, learning, Opportunity...). Then through the campaign, we will be able to show what values are more important per region or country. The website is heavily in the works, so as to allow localization of it while we are actually creating it, we froze all the strings and put them in a separate template for extraction and we put that on Verbatim: https://localize.mozilla.org/projects/glow2014/ (and of course for those that prefer using offline tools such as OmegaT, PoEdit or others, the .po is editable at: https://svn.mozilla.org/projects/l10n-misc/trunk/glow2014/locale/) 5/ The about:home snippets We have 27 snippets promoting the launch, Flod already talked to you about them in this list so I won't tell more, but I guess that some of the snippets referring the launch may now make more sense now that you know what all this is about :) For everything design/font related and impacting l10n, we will probably start working on that next week, to give the webdevs the time to finalize all the content. El SUMO en català passaria a ser un FAQ

Versió llarga: *Context* Mai hem pogut donar abast a tot i el SUMO sempre ha quedat en última prioritat. Tenim unes 1000 visualitzacions d'articles al dia, una xifra molt baixa en comparació amb el total d'usuaris del programari de mozilla en català. Hem estat parlant al SUMO (http://support.mozilla.org) sobre la millor manera de solucionar la manca de continguts localitzats. https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/forums/l10n-forum/710065?page=1 Això afecta a moltes locales, no només el català. *Alternatives ofertes:* Han ofert dues alternatives: * redirigir al castellà * crear un FAQ que puguem mantenir traduït. *Resolució*: Vam descartar redirigir al castellà pels següents motius: - No respecta la decisió de l'usuari (accept-lang i configuració del navegador) - No és necessàriament un article de bona qualitat (p.ex. a vegades es referencien elements a la itnerfície en anglès) - No compartim terminologia - Existeix una part d'usuaris, petita però real, que no parlen castellà. Lliguem el Firefox a la llengua, no a la geografia. - Trenca l'esforç de cohesió i normalització lingüística fet fins ara (infinitius, terminologia, etc) - No necessàriament ajuda a incrementar l'ús del programari en català. ans el contrari, és possible que donem la impressió que no fem bé la feina i que les traduccions estan incompletes (i això que el català va ser la primera localització del netscape fora de l'empresa...) - el SUMO ja té un element ben dissenyat (usabilitat) a la pantalla per triar l'idioma. Així, tindríem un FAQ i quan algú consulti el FAQ aniria: 1. si la infrastructura ho permet, intentaria utilitzar l'accept-lang. 2. com que el català no hi és, portaria o bé al que digui l'accept-lang secundari, o bé a l'anglès (depèn de com sigui el backend del SUMO) 3. un cop en anglès, la gent pot triar amb el selector de locales de la part superior central. *Seguiment i implementació de la solució* Existeix* https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=989115 <https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=989115> *on es fa el seguiment. [Mozilla.cat] Treball programat

Bon dia, A la feina hem començat a utilitzar Trello <https://trello.com/>, un gestor de tasques molt interessant que crec que ens aniria molt bé per programar articles, actualitzacions a xarxes o tasques en el bloc (tema traduccions el desconec...). De moment he creat uns quants panells per tenir programats articles i actualitzacions. Si m'envieu un email, us adjunto i li feu un cop d'ull. També he creat una pàgina de mozilla.cat a Google+ <https://plus.google.com/b/103420913532535166166/103420913532535166166/about>. S'hauria d'enllaçar amb la web www.mozilla.cat. Em sembla que és posar un codi al <head>. Com ho fem? Intentaré actualitzar el bloc un cop per setmana i les xarxes 2 o 3. Les fotos de capçalera he pensat d'anar-les canviant cada 3 o 4 setmanes amb motius festius o paisatges catalans. Com ho veieu? Intentaré animar a un parell d'amics meus pq també escriguin a mozilla.cat a veure si té més vida. També hauríem d'actualitzar l'estètica del bloc, ha quedat desfasada... Per altra banda he començat a col·laborar amb el portal ycom.cat <http://ycom.cat/>. Faré un post de totes les noves versions del Firefox ja que crec que ens pot aportar visites i, possiblement, algun seguidor més a les xarxes. Tema softcatalà voleu que faci un article també? Crec que és una bona plataforma de difusió que ens pot venir de meravella. En jordi, l'anna i jo hem acabat la traducció del firefox/thunderbird/seamonkey/etc aurora 30. el dilluns 17 s'agafen les cadenes. el 18 es publica. Demà 16 faré push als servidors de mozilla. si algú vol fer-hi correccions té fins demà a les 3 de la tarda. si no teniu permís per enviar cadenes, sinó suggeriments, aviseu per assegurar-vos que ho veig! bona feina!

This is only done in hg, if you're on pootle or transifex, that won't show up in your UI unless you ask for it. I've got a thread open with Dwayne on that, he's actively working on how to make that on their side. If you happen to have a clone with updated work, please pull, and merge. If you have problems with that, find us on irc, we can help. For everyone's sanity, I don't usually do this, and I don't know if I'll do another round yet. Unless you ask me (or flod) to. Which also means, if you've done stuff on gaia-l10n, and you'd like to see a merge, we can help. I was originally going to write this in the message about Metro, but then I realized it was becoming way too long. During last week I had a glimpse of how messy the Mozilla Localizations product is in terms of pending bugs: 3 years old open bugs with no activity, fixed bugs still marked as NEW, etc. Imagine a component in Bugzilla as a garden: right now Mozilla Localizations resembles an abandoned garden. With wandering zombies in it :-) How can we improve this situation? I'm not sure if some of these features are available to all users, if not please let me know. *Follow your locale* If you're not doing it already, start following your own locale on Bugzilla and try to keep it as clean as possible. Every time someone opens a bug in this component, you'll receive a bugmail. 1. Login to BugZilla with your account and go to Preferences->Component watching (https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/userprefs.cgi?tab=component_watch ). 2. Select Product "Mozilla Localizations". 3. Click on your locale in the "Component" section. 4. Click Add. *Resolve bugs* If a bug is resolved, it should be marked as RESOLVED FIXED, then verified on the next build and marked as VERIFIED FIXED. Don't leave open bugs around (remember zombies?). *Check pending bugs* You can also perform a search for open bugs in your locales and save it: 1. Do an Advanced search on Mozilla Localizations -> Your locale for bugs with Resolution "---". 2. When results are displayed you'll see a "Remember search" button at the bottom of the page, give it a name (e.g. "Italian bugs"). 3. From now on you'll see a link in the footer of all Bugzilla pages to perform the same search. *Clear review and needinfo requests* If someone falgs you for a review, or set a NEEDINFO for you, you should try to clear these requests. 1. (Thanks Magnus!) Previously, many other localizations had already set the default character encoding for new outgoing email to UTF-8. This localizations are: Arabic Belarusian Greek Farsi Georgian Macedonian South Ndebele Panjabi Polish Romanian Russian Serbian Swati Southern Sotho Tsonga Venda Vietnamese Xhosa Traditonal Chinese Zulu Note that this isn't just a matter of African languages that have to use UTF-8 using UTF-8. The above list includes languages that do have Thunderbird-supported legacy encodings (Arabic, Belarusian, Greek, Farsi, Macedonian, Polish, Romanian, Russian, Serbian, Vietnamese, Traditional Chinese). I encourage other localizations to consider whether they'd be ready to change the default for outgoing email (mailnews.send_default_charset in messenger.properties) to UTF-8. The only reason not to would be regionally still-popular UTF-8-incapable email clients. (Unlikely at this day and age.) In particular, since the Belarusian, Macedonian, Russian and Serbian localizations have already been able to make the switch to UTF-8, it is very probable that the Bulgarian and Ukrainian localizations could do so, too, at this time. I'd also like to especially encourage the German, Italian and Breton localizations to consider if they could make the switch to UTF-8. These three locales currently default to ISO-8859-15 for outgoing email. This doesn't make sense, because: 1) ISO-8859-15 is a younger encoding than UTF-8. If you are worrying about UTF-8 being too new to be supported, on newness grounds, you should worry even more about ISO-8859-15! 2) Compared to ISO-8859-1, ISO-8859-15 was motivated by three things: less common French letters mysteriously omitted from ISO-8859-1, transliterations in the Finnish context (totally missing the point of transliterations!) and the euro sign. When the French and Finnish localizations as well as many other localizations used in the Eurozone don't need to default to ISO-8859-15, German, Italian and Breton almost certainly don't need to, either. But instead of changing back to ISO-8859-1, let's treat this as an opportunity to switch to UTF-8. - - Currently, Thunderbird already silently upgrades a message to UTF-8 even when the default is something else if the message contains characters that can't be expressed in the preferred legacy encoding, so it's not like the defaults prevent people from writing stuff in email. So why bother changing the default then? The reason why Thunderbird doesn't always use UTF-8 for outgoing email is that way back when UTF-8 support was initially added to email clients, older email clients out there didn't all already supports UTF-8, so it makes sense to use already-supported legacy encodings when possible. But that was a long ago. UTF-8 was invented over 20 years ago and at least for the past decade, the ability to receive UTF-8 has been commonplace. We should stop pretending that UTF-8 avoidance still adds value when pretty much everyone already uses email clients capable of receiving UTF-8. The Gaia email client already simply uses UTF-8 for all outgoing email. The UTF-8 avoidance capabilities don't come for free. In addition to having to maintain encoders for legacy encodings (which needs to happen to support form submissions in Firefox anyway) and having code complexity to deal with the silent upgrade to UTF-8 (which isn't that much additional code complexity considering what Firefox form submissions require anyway) it means having to maintain the capability of the HTML serializers (for HTML mail) to output encodings other than UTF-8 and it comes with the UI burden (both in terms of adding more stuff that the user may end up thinking about and in terms of adding a ball and chain legacy to code maintenance) since we seem to feel that if there is the possibility to use encodings other than UTF-8, there should be UI for it. (My primary interest in this is the inertia that Thunderbird having UI for this imposes on making encoding-related changes to Firefox.) So the two previous paragraphs seem to argue for removing the configurability and just always sending UTF-8. What's this about localizations changing the default configuration then? Changing the default configuration is a first step that makes reducing configurability and the associated code complexity less scary in the future. Making a change like this product-wide regardless of locale tends to bring up concerns that maybe the email client environment for some locale out there isn't ready yet.
