Subject: [l10n-web] New strings for firefox/sync page
To: Mozilla projects web content localization <
dev-l10n-web a lists.mozilla.org>
Hi,
I've just pushed a new set of strings (33) for the Firefox Sync page.
https://www-dev.allizom.org/firefox/sync/
The new design has a nice interactive feature: it's able to detect if the
user already has Sync enabled.
If Sync is enabled it displays a confirmation message (“You’re signed up
and ready to access your Firefox anywhere, anytime.”) and a download button
for Android, if not it displays instructions to set it up. Instructions
will also be different if viewed from an Android device.
In order to see this on the www-dev server, you need to modify 2 keys in
about:config (the procedure is identical to the one you did to test the UI
Tour for Australis)
browser.uitour.requireSecure
This must be set to false
browser.uitour.whitelist.add.testing
Add www-dev.allizom.org as value (don't worry if you see it blank after a
restart, value is still stored but not displayed).
You need to *restart the browser* after this change.
Last note: on mozilla.org we'll keep displaying the old page until the new
strings are translated (assuming you translated the previous version)
https://www.mozilla.org/firefox/sync/
Let me know if you have any questions.
Francesco

Some more notes on testing this page (and other like firefox/new that
display different content on different browser/OS).
*Use a profile for tests*
First suggestion: it's not necessary, but create a new profile for your
tests, so you don't mess up the profile you use for your daily web browsing.
If you have no idea how to do that, you can follow these instructions
https://support.mozilla.org/kb/profile-manager-create-and-remove-firefox-profiles
If you frequently work with more than one profile, I suggest to install
this add-on: it lets you switch between profiles and integrates seamlessly
with Australis menu
https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/profilist/
*Install User Agent Switcher*
Add-on: https://addons.mozilla.org/it/firefox/addon/user-agent-switcher/
Restart Firefox, then save this file on your computer
https://raw.githubusercontent.com/flodolo/scripts/master/mozilla_l10n/useragentswitcher/useragentswitcher.xml
1. Now open Tools -> Default User Agent -> Edit User Agents…
2. Click on the Import button and select the file you saved before
(useragentswitcher.xml).
3. Press OK to confirm and exit this window.
At this point you're ready to test.
Go in Tools -> Default User Agent -> Test Mozilla
1. To test Android select one of the Android options
2. To test the 'obsolete version' choose Firefox 23
3. To test non Firefox browser pick IE 11
After each change it's enough to reload the page, no need to restart the
browser.
