Welcome to the Monthly Open Source News Service of the IDABC OSOR
project.
This monthly alert keeps you updated on news related to the use of
Free/Libre/Open Source software (FLOSS) in the public sector in
Europe. The IDABC OSOR project is a pan-European information
platform on Free/Libre/Open Source software in the public sector,
and is intended to promote and spread the use of best practices in
Europe. It aims to provide a comprehensive overview of
Free/Libre/Open Source Software policies and activities in the
public sector, especially in current and future EU Member States.
This service will keep you up-to-date with the latest FLOSS
software-related news, activities, initiatives and insights from
across Europe and beyond.
Please feel free to forward this alert to any other interested
persons, and to send us your comments and suggestions. We also
welcome your contributions and we invite you to send in news
items, announcements for events and other stories related to FLOSS

HIGHLIGHTS -- news and events of specific interest
CAMSS Info Day
A special event on CAMSS will take place on 28 May 2008, in Brussels.
CAMSS, an initiative of the European Commission's IDABC programme, aims at
initiating, supporting and coordinating the collaboration between volunteer
Member States in the definition of a "Common Assessment Method for
Standards and Specifications" and sharing of the assessment study results
for the development of eGovernment services.
The event will focus on the presentation of CAMSS and its achievements,
and will be open to discussion with the stakeholders.

IDABC Event - launch of SEMIC.EU
The SEMIC.EU event, scheduled for June 17, 2008 in Brussels, will feature
the official launch of the SEMIC.EU website.
In November 2007, the Semantic Interoperability Centre Europe (SEMIC.EU)
opened its virtual doors to the public and can now be accessed through
the new website www.semic.eu.
The SEMIC.EU project aims to build a European platform for interoperability
assets and services available to the public sector and its stakeholders
in Europe, focusing on semantic - ie. content -interoperability.
The communication platform will facilitate the creation of expert
communities, and will provide a public web repository on semantic
interoperability issues.
